What is font weight?

Font weight is how thick or thin the strokes of a font are, from light to regular to bold and heavier.

Weight describes how heavy text looks. Many typefaces come in several weights, such as thin, light, regular, medium, semibold, bold and black. Websites often name these with numbers from 100 for the thinnest to 900 for the heaviest, with 400 as regular and 700 as bold. Changing weight is one of the simplest ways to make a heading stand out or to soften supporting text.

Why it matters for your business: Using weight with purpose helps visitors see what is most important on a page at a glance.
