What is hue?
Hue is the basic name of a color, such as red, blue or green, before it is made lighter, darker or duller.
Hue is the pure family a color belongs to on the color wheel, like red, orange, yellow, green, blue or purple. Two colors can share a hue and still look very different. Navy and sky blue are both blue in hue, but one is darker and one is lighter. Designers describe a color by its hue, how strong it is (saturation) and how light or dark it is.
Why it matters for your business: Knowing the words for color helps you give clear feedback, such as "same hue, but lighter," instead of "a different blue."
