What is PageRank?
PageRank is Google's original method of judging a page's importance by the links pointing to it. A version of it is still one of many ranking signals.
PageRank was the idea behind Google's early success. It treats a link from one page to another as a kind of vote, with votes from important pages counting more. Google no longer shows a public PageRank score, and it is now one signal among many. Third-party tools offer their own link scores, but those are estimates made by those companies, not Google's numbers.
Why it matters for your business: PageRank is why quality links from respected websites still help a site rank, and why one strong link can be worth more than many weak ones.
