What is proximity in design?
Proximity is placing related items close together and unrelated items farther apart, so people see what belongs together.
Proximity is the design idea that things near each other seem related. A label placed right next to its form field reads as a pair. A price placed close to its product clearly belongs to it. When spacing is even everywhere, people struggle to tell which pieces go together. Designers use space between groups, and less space within groups, to show structure without extra lines or boxes.
Why it matters for your business: Good grouping makes forms, menus and price lists faster to understand, which reduces confusion and mistakes.
