What is a script?

A script is a small program that runs a specific task on a website, like loading a chat box, tracking visits or checking a form.

A script is a short piece of code that does one job. On websites, scripts are usually written in JavaScript and run in the visitor's browser. Many come from outside services: analytics tracking, ad pixels, chat widgets, booking tools and review feeds. Each one is added to the page with a small tag. Scripts can also run on the server to handle tasks like sending form emails or cleaning up data on a schedule.

Why it matters for your business: Every outside script slows your page a little and gives that service some access to your site. Remove scripts for tools you no longer use.
