What is a vector file?
A vector file stores artwork as math-based shapes, so it can grow to any size, from a business card to a billboard, without blurring.
A vector file describes artwork with points, lines and curves instead of pixels. Because the shapes are calculated, the image stays perfectly crisp at any size. Logos, icons and illustrations are usually made as vectors. Common vector formats include SVG, AI, EPS and many PDFs. Photos cannot be true vectors. A vector logo is the master copy you should keep, because every other file can be made from it.
Why it matters for your business: Printers, sign makers and embroiderers often ask for a vector logo. Having one on hand avoids delays and fuzzy results.
