What is search intent?
Search intent is the reason behind a search: what the person actually wants to find, learn or do.
Search intent, or user intent, is the goal behind a search. Someone may want to learn something, reach a certain website, compare options or buy now. Search engines try to show the kind of page that fits that goal. A search like "how to unclog a drain" wants a guide, while "plumber near me" wants a business to call. Some searches are unclear and could mean more than one thing, so the results show a mix.
Why it matters for your business: A page that does not match the intent will struggle to rank, however well written it is. Matching intent means giving searchers the right type of page, such as a service page, a guide or a product page.
